My art is inspired by the colors, shapes, and movement of western mountain landscapes. In these pieces I have allowed the paint to flow naturally, creating a calming organic blend of colors. When looking closely, these pieces seem to mimic the detail of rock and water while from a distance they represent familiar shapes of western landscape.
My process includes an acrylic medium that I use as a base for the paint. This base acts as something like a river in the way it carries the paint in a fluid motion. I tilt, tap, and touch the canvas so that the “river” of paint moves in a particular way. Once the paint is dry I cut it along the contours and use the pieces to collage together a familiar image.
This series is a display of a relationship between human and nature. This relationship is one that allows elements to take their natural course, while adjusting them only enough as needed.
